Ashe Signs Letter of Intent with Bloomsburg University
|
Wootton senior linebacker &
running back Mike Ashe
signed a National Letter of
Intent with Bloomsburg
University.
Ashe was a 3-year starter for
the Patriots setting marks for
tackles in a single game (20)
and topping the 100-tackle
mark his senior season.
Bloomsburg is one of the top
Division II programs in the
country. Finishing at 7-3 last
season in the highly
competitive PSAC, the
Huskies won their conference
and were playoff teams in
2005 (11-1) and 2006 (12-2).
Dillon Fulfills
Dream to Join
Maryland Terps
from the Terrapin Times
When the Terps put the pads
on in August, Wootton High
School center John Dillon will
be among the many new faces
trying to catch the coaches'
attention as a preferred
walk-on.
The 6-2, 280-pounder with 5.2
speed has always dreamt of
being a Terp. He recently
accepted an invitation as the
Terps first preferred walk-on
joining the mix for 2008.
Dillon played both ways for
Wootton this season but will
come to Maryland as a center,
a thin spot for the Terps.
Dillon has solid speed (5.2)
and strength, benching 315
pounds and squatting 560.

Cockerill Signs with Gettysburg
Wootton senior cornerback and
running back Jimmy Cockerill has
announced his intent to play football
for the Gettysburg College Bullets.
Cockerill was a varsity defender for
two-and-a-half years for the Patriots
and garnered All-Region Honorable
Mention honors as a cornerback in
2007. With 36 tackles and 2
interceptions, he was the
secondary's top run-stopper and
was matched up with the
opponent's top receiver every game.
In a limited offensive role, Cockerill
also picked up 161 yards and a pair
of touchdowns his senior season.
Ray to be a Towson Tiger
Linebacker / tight end Brendan Ray
leaves the program as a two-time team
MVP. A three-year starter for the Patriots,
Ray finished his career with 238 tackles
despite teams consistently
gameplanning to work away from his
side of the defense.
Brendan Ray will be a Towson
Tiger this fall, head coach Gordie
Combs announced.
Ray (6-1, 215) was the
cornerstone of Wootton's
rebuilding efforts over the past
three years. He was a defensive
starter as a sophomore, ultimately
being voted defensive MVP by his
teammates. The next two years
his teammates selected him as
team MVP, both times by large
margins.
His abilities were recognized
outside of the program as well. He
was all-region honorable mention
as a sophomore, 2nd team as a
junior, and a unanimous selection
as a senior linebacker.
Ray was also a three-time
member of football's Leadership
Council.
